“You okay…?”
Nan Xiao jumped, instinctively blurting out the question.

Xie Chengyu didn’t answer. At that moment, Elder Xie emerged from the hallway, leaning heavily on his cane, and grabbed Nan Xiao’s hand in a desperate grip. “Xiao Xiao,” he wailed, voice cracking with emotion, “our family has been cursed—born such a wicked son! You’ve suffered so much!”

Xie Chengyu turned slowly, his voice cold as ice. “Once Ruoxin’s child is born, I’ll have him listed in the family genealogy. You wanted an heir, didn’t you? Now you’ve got one.”

“You—you’re doing this just to torment me! Get out—get out right now!” Elder Xie waved his cane wildly.

Xie Chengyu walked away without so much as a glance at Nan Xiao.

Nan Xiao clenched her jaw, fighting the urge to look back. After helping Elder Xie back to his bedroom, she pulled Zhang Aunty aside and whispered, “What’s going on?”

“The young master told the elder this morning that he’d divorced you. Then he said Ruoxin’s pregnant with his child. The old man was furious.”

Nan Xiao froze. Xie Chengyu had only just found out about Ruoxin’s pregnancy—and already told the elder?

He must really care about her. He wouldn’t let her suffer without a name, without dignity. That’s why he did it.

“But Grandfather’s health…”

“Oh, the medical report came back. Nothing serious. Just needs to eat normally from now on.”

Nan Xiao nodded. Xie Chengyu was dutiful, respectful. If Elder Xie were truly ill, he wouldn’t have dared defy him like this.

So there was no reason for her to stay here out of concern for the old man. She decided right then to go back to their “home” and pack up—she’d leave as soon as possible.

Back at the villa, she dug out an old suitcase she hadn’t used in years. She folded her clothes one by one, each movement heavy with sorrow.

Leaving this place after three years—it felt like tearing a piece of herself away. Once she moved out, there’d be no chance between her and Xie Chengyu. The thought still made her ache.

She thought again of Ruoxin. When Elder Xie said *“that actress…”*

So Ruoxin was Xie Chengyu’s ex-girlfriend?

Had they broken up before because the old man disapproved of someone in showbiz? And now they were back together?

They say the gut reflects your emotions. Right now, Nan Xiao’s stomach twisted into knots. She doubled over, nausea rising fast. She rushed to the bathroom and threw up everything she’d eaten last night.

Afterward, her stomach finally settled. But she noticed her clothes were stained. Spots of vomit smeared her sleeves. Without hesitation, she stripped off her clothes and stepped into the shower.

She hadn’t brought a towel. And she certainly wasn’t walking out in dirty clothes.

She glanced around. The house was empty. No one else was here. So she dried herself with a towel, then stepped out of the bathroom—naked.

Then—out of nowhere—a shadow loomed in front of her.

They collided head-on in a sudden, jarring crash.

Nan Xiao gasped sharply, instinctively pushing her hand against the chest in front of her.

But their legs tangled instantly. Both lost balance and fell hard to the floor. She landed face-down on top of him.

Her heart stopped. Even in that split second, she recognized him—the man she’d just collided with.

Her husband.

She reacted quickly—though unsure what to do. In panic, she slapped her hand over his eyes, then pushed against his chest, trying to scramble up.

The move sent a visible ripple through the man beneath her. His temple twitched, a vein pulsing sharply under his skin.

Just half a minute earlier, Xie Chengyu had been heading toward the bathroom. He’d barely touched the door when it swung open from inside—then a white, naked figure crashed straight into his arms.

Warm, soft, fragrant—his mind went blank.

And then the body in his arms started moving.

A small, delicate hand pressed over his eyes. Another warm palm slid onto his chest.

Heat surged through him. His muscles locked tight. He growled low, “Stop. Don’t move.”

Silence.

The woman above him seemed frozen—like she’d been scared into stillness.

And then… she didn’t move at all.
