Chapter 8: The Dog Man
“You still think you’re right, huh? Fine. Bring her back!”
Huo Sijue suddenly roared in the office.
Wen Xuxu blinked, stunned. “Where are you taking me? Listen, Huo Sijue—I’m a legal citizen of M country now. You grab me like this, and you’re breaking the law!”
A cold scoff came from the man. “Law? Here, I *am* the law.”
“…”
“Huo Sijue! Where the hell are you taking me? Are you insane? You were practically begging for me to disappear before—now you drag me back? Are you trying to play the hero after being a scumbag? Want to look all noble while juggling three wives and four mistresses? You’re a damn lunatic—let me go!”
By the time she was finally dragged out, she’d been carried all the way down to the first floor. Her furious voice still echoed from the third-floor office long after she vanished.
Assistant Xiao Lin, hearing it, stared at his boss’s temple, where a vein pulsed violently beneath the skin. He wanted nothing more than to bolt out of there—run as far and fast as possible.
Holy crap.
This ex-wife was seriously fierce. She actually said *that*? In Lü Group, that kind of talk would’ve gotten someone burned alive on the spot.
Still, Wen Xuxu was taken away.
And after an entire morning of chaos, the hospital finally settled down once Dr. Nancy was gone.
—
At a high-end apartment in the city center.
Mobo and his little sister Ruoruo had already been picked up by Zhong Wan, who followed Wen Xuxu’s earlier instructions: not to take them home, but to bring them to her own place.
“Mobo, Ruoruo, Auntie Zhong has to open the shop door. You two stay here and watch TV. I’ll bring back something yummy, okay?”
“Okay, Auntie Zhong!”
Ruoruo, the little foodie, instantly agreed.
Mobo nodded too—but the second Zhong Wan left, he darted straight to the phone.
Ruoruo toddled over with her stuffed doll. “Brother… what are you doing?”
Mobo lifted the receiver. “I’m calling Mommy. I want to check if she’s at the hospital.”
Ruoruo tilted her head. “Hmm?”
She wasn’t quite as sharp as her brother yet. How could Mommy *not* be at the hospital? She’d said she was going back to work today!
After a few seconds of staring blankly at her brother, the little girl grew bored. She hugged her doll tighter and turned back to her cartoon.
Ten seconds later, the line picked up.
“Hello?”
“Hi… um, is Dr. Nancy here today?”
“Oh, I’m sorry—Dr. Nancy isn’t in today. If you’re her patient, you can reschedule your appointment.”
The nurse’s voice was gentle, reassuring.
But Mobo froze.
How could Mommy not be at the hospital?
Where else would she be?
He didn’t believe it. But asking again wouldn’t help. So instead, he climbed off the stool and slipped into Auntie Zhong’s study.
A few minutes later, the computer screen lit up with live feeds from Clear Hospital’s security system.
There she was—Mommy—on the main lobby camera, then in the elevator, then standing outside the third-floor director’s office.
But then… why did she go in… only to come out being carried out by those black-clad men?
Mobo’s tiny brow knitted tightly together.
—
Meanwhile, at the Hilton Hotel.
Ever since she’d been brought in, Wen Xuxu hadn’t stopped fighting. But her struggles were useless against those towering black-suited guards. In the end, she was shoved, unceremoniously, to the top floor—right behind that smug bastard.
“I won’t treat you, Huo Sijue. Forget it,” she snapped the moment she stepped inside.
She didn’t even glance around the penthouse—no matter how lavish or spacious it was. All she cared about was rubbing her sore wrist.
No response from Huo Sijue.
Instead, a small figure emerged from the massive living room.
Wen Xuxu froze.
“You’re back. 38 minutes late. Today’s kindergarten is canceled.”
It was another kid—so eerily like Huo Sijue it gave her chills. The same sharp jawline, the same icy expression, the same detached coolness. Even the way he spoke—flat, clipped, exactly like the dog-faced man.
Wen Xuxu was speechless. Her mouth hung open. She forgot what she’d meant to say.
Huo Sijue ignored her, crouched down to his son’s level. “Daddy had some business this morning. Got delayed. I’ll make it up to you, okay?”
Huo Yun remained stone-faced. “Did you lie to others the same way when you signed the contract?”
Huo Sijue: “….”
Wen Xuxu: “….”
One stunned into silence, the other wide-eyed with disbelief—when suddenly, the boy’s gaze locked directly onto her.
“Who is she?”
“!!”
Wen Xuxu felt her heart slam against her ribs. Her ears buzzed with static. Her whole body trembled—like every nerve in her body had just ignited.
